Week Ending June 30, 2013. Songs: Macklemore’s Timely Hit

Here’s another winner of last week’s historic Supreme Court decisions on gay equality: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. “Same Love,” the pair’s plaintive song featuring Mary Lambert, leaps from #23 to #8 on Hot Digital Songs. The song sold 110K copies in the past week, its largest weekly sum to date. It posted a 33% sales gain in the past week—the largest gain, on a percentage basis, of any song in the top 30. It was #28 on last week’s Hot 100, and it’s sure to move up this week. The song is just a week away from becoming a million-seller (it’s already up to 938K), which raises the question: Will Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ship off a gold record to the Supreme Court?
